Gadsden Councilman Involved in Deadly Crash PDF Print E-mail

Gadsden City Councilman Bill Stewart was involved in a multi-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon that took the life of his wife, Sylvia.

Apparently, Stewart's car was struck head-on by a vehicle carrying a camper near Sylacauga, AL. Details are sketchy at this time, but, reports indicate that Mrs. Stewart was flown, by helicopter, to UAB Hospital, where she died due to injuries sustaned in the accident. We will have details as soon as they are available.

Residents in the Etowah County town of Southside are digging out from under debris and damaged homes in the wake of straightline winds estimated in excess of 80 miles per hour last night. Winds blew down trees and power lines across the county, and left one home in Southside with about seven trees down on and around the house. Talladgea County EMA officials report numerous trees and power lines down with no structural damage, and the Calhoun County EMA reports only minor limbs and debris following last nights storms.

Piedmont police arrested 43 year old James Smith yesterday after watching him process crystal methamphetamine inside a utility room at the Piedmont Manor Apartments. Smith is facing several charges including manufacturing and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Calhoun County Jail.

Four year old Anderw Noble Skinner died Wednesday night at Children's Hospital in Birmingham. The boy had been hospitalized since falling into a swimming pool in an Anniston home last month. Due to complications caused by the accident, Skinner suffered cardiac arrest.

Fite says Republicans are trying to frame the bill as a tax increase on the people. (Take SOT: 7 secs/... the people). House Republicans say the bill would constitutionally eliminate a deduction for federal income taxes paid by some residents in the state.
